: Solo Area : :
The royal city of Solo, once a rival to Yogyakarta is often overlooked
(perhaps because of it's size or because Yogya is just so much closer
to Borobudur) and that is a shame as Solo has a great many things
going for it.
Lying on the western bank of Bengawan Solo, one of Java's most important
rivers Solo was founded before Yogya and as such has arguably a
richer and more fascinating history. Solo has two Keratons, one
of which is even larger than Yogya's more famous Palace. As well
just outside the city you can visit Sukuh Temple and Sangiran, the
ancient archaeological site.
Also Solo is great place to study bahasa Indonesia or shop for Indonesian
furniture, artifacts or batik (Solo batik is brighter & more
colourful than the traditional batik from Yogyakarta.
FYI, in order to remain objective, hotels are listed in alphabetical
order. We don't favor any hotel for any reason.
